That's gratitude.

The 73 year old woman who was jailed for a week for refusing to pay her council tax is disappointed that she was released from prison after just one day. Her release came after a mystery donor took pity on her plight and paid off her debt for her. She wasn't happy that someone decided to do her a favour and thus bring her council tax protest to an end.

While she may have wanted to become a martyr to the cause, there are many people who think that prison is no place for an elderly person, especially for an offence like that. She might have been upset that her fifteen minutes of fame were cut short, but she could still have found it within herself to say thanks to the person who kindly cleared her debts. I bet the person who coughed the money up wishes they just let her stay in prison now. Who knows, given the alleged state of our prisons, she'd probably like it better in there than in her own home.
