The evolution of the mobile.

Isn't it weird how technology changes over the years? One minute, you're carrying around something that seems almost as big as you, the next you have something that fits into the palm of your hand.

I was reminded of this the other day when my dad stumbled upon the first mobile phone he had when he was sorting some stuff out. Believe it or not, the phone you see above is a Nokia, from around 1994. When you think of how small, light and sleek Nokias and other mobile makes are now, it is a bit of a shock to see one the size and weight of a brick. Holding it in my hand, I thought I was going to do some serious damage to myself. We compared it to my dad's current mobile (see the top picture)-it's double the size of that and probably nearly five times the size of mine. What it shows is just how much things have changed in 11 years. Back then we could only make phone calls. Now we can make phone calls, video phone calls, send text, picture and video messages, surf the internet, listen to music, personalise them with our own ringtones (which has both its good and bad points) and more. Which makes you wonder what might happen in the next eleven years.

Room for improvement

The last week or so I've not really had much to blog about. Well, nothing I really want to share here, anyway. Let's just say that it has been one of those weeks where things that you hoped wouldn't happen to you, did. One of those things was me falling foul of the bug that everyone around here seems to be getting, which has given me a sore throat so bad I've come close to losing my voice.

While I haven't been updating this (with the exception of a couple of edits of my profile), I have been coming back here now and again to read back some of the entries I've put on here previously. I've noticed that my last couple of entries have been pretty negative- just moaning and angry rants about things. I've decided that I don't want this blog to be solely an outlet for whinging and negativity, especially on things as trivial as mint flavoured Chocolate oranges. So from now on, I'm going to try and include more positive entries. I'm still experimenting with blogging, so I'm going to keep at this until I get it right. Besides, I can delete all my crap entries later.

Bear with me, this will get better!

This is just wrong!

While looking through the Sainsbury's christmas catalogue that came with the paper yesterday, I saw advertised a special offer for Chocolate Oranges of all varieties. There was the original milk chocolate one, the dark chocolate one and the latest addition to the range, a mint flavoured one.

You read me right. A chocolate orange that is actually mint. Not orange at all. Yet still being marketed as a Chocolate Orange. Which leads one to ask: WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF CALLING IT A CHOCOLATE ORANGE IF IT ISN'T ACTUALLY ORANGE FLAVOURED?!

Ok, so maybe "Chocolate Mint" doesn't have the same ring to it. But if you make it in the shape of an orange and market it as a Chocolate Orange, people are going to think it is one, right? So they are going to feel cheated if they open it and eat it only to find it tastes of mint and not orange, aren't they? Especially if they don't like mint.

Well worth getting out of bed for

Manchester City's supporters look set to create a new trend for morning football matches. Sunday's home game against Everton was, at 11:15am, the earliest kick-off in premiership history. Thus a number of the home fans turned up to follow their team looking like they'd just got out of bed in pyjamas and dressing gowns. Either that, or they were all heading for an Arthur Dent lookalike competition straight after the game. Whatever the case, it was a match that eventually was worth getting out of bed for as City won the game 2-0, thanks to goals from Danny Mills and Darius Vassell.
