Oh s**t!

I accidentally deleted one of my blog entries.

Thankfully, it was one of my least favourite entries. Still, I'm not particularly happy about losing it. Even more unhappy about the fact that there is no way I can get it back. It just goes to show you that you should always make a back up of everything you put on a website, including blogs. I've started to have each post e mailed to me now so I have some sort of back up in case things go wrong, but I suppose even this isn't entirely foolproof.

All would be bloggers, take my advice- be careful what you delete!

Just a thought...

Is it possible to become addicted to Vicks vaporub? If so, can you OD on it?

I've used practically a whole tub of the stuff this week, rubbing it in as if my life depended on it, among doing other things. And yet, despite my best efforts to try and get better by today, I am still suffering.

As if that wasn't enough, my GP has referred me for a blood test on Monday. He's pretty sure its flu- although thankfully not of the bird variety. What fun I'm having right now.

From the sickbed.

I am currently laid up at home with a heavy cold. I say a cold, it could well be flu judging by how shitty I've been feeling the last few days. Naturally, I've not had much energy or enthusiasm for anything as a result, including using the computer (which as anyone who knows me will know, is so unlike me). Normal service will resume as soon as I've fully recovered from my illness. I'll probably have more to talk about by then!

Would you name your baby this?

The new issue of Web User magazine refers to a blog that someone has set up about their newborn son. Nothing unusual in that, you might think, until you find out that their little bundle of joy has been named after the most popular search engine on the web...Google. Sure Google is a great name for a website, but a little kid? He's going to get a lot of stick when he's older and at school.Poor thing. Parents should be prosecuted for giving children stupid names.

A change of scenery.

I've decided to change the template of my website. I was getting bored of the previous one. Plus it was getting harder to see the text against the background, so I've chosen something with a bit more colour. Knowing me, I'll probably keep changing it now and again until I'm happy with it (I'm still getting to grips with blogging and website building after all), but for now, I like it. And at least I'm not straining my eyes anymore.

One thing I noticed when changing my template was that any links that I'd entered had disappeared. Not only that, but the template that I had chosen didn't include the link list. For someone that isn't totally experienced in HTML code yet, this was a bit of a pain. Fortunately, I was able to copy the code on the blogger help page that tells you how to edit the links and add it to the template code. After initially messing up, I finally got it right. While it does appear a bit of an inconvenience at first, I think its good that there is a chance for people to learn a bit of HTML and experiment with it while using Blogger. Just so long as I don't have to mess around with it too often!

Fireworks

I haven't updated this for a bit. I'm not getting bored of doing this yet, its just that I've been racking my brains trying to think of something to write about on here recently. Writer's block is a terrible thing. As I write this, it's the day after bonfire night and the fireworks are still going off. I can understand why some are still letting them off as the weather wasn't perfect last night (we still managed to let off a few in the back garden last night). Then again, many of those still letting them of were probably doing it long before the night itself- and they probably weren't legal.

This may well be one of the last years we'll be able to celebrate Bonfire night in our own back gardens. If the ban it brigade get their way, we'll no longer be able to buy fireworks over the counter. I can understand their arguments for a ban, but I doubt it will make any difference. There will still be idiots who will be able to get hold of them on the black market and some may even manage to make their own. Given that there are websites that tell you how to make your own bombs, you can bet there are some that tell you how to make your own bangers and roman candles, therefore, people will be in even more danger. What's needed is better education on the dangers of fireworks. When I was a kid, there was constant promotion of the fireworks code in the run up to bonfire night. The fire brigade would come into school every year to give a talk and show us slides showing injuries caused by fireworks. There were loads of adverts on TV telling us to always follow the fireworks code. These days, there are hardly any adverts, while I don't know whether the fire brigade even dare venture into schools anymore.
